Behind the scenes of film poster designs.

Hardest job in the world

Working for my mate Gregor is always a pleasure. We’ve had projects for years now and we’ve been friends since our youth. I always liked his movies and he always liked my designs. A lot of fun for the both of us.

But his latest project “St.Christophorus: Roadkill” really became hard work! It is a satirical horror short. That’s where the problem starts. The design needs to shbow some of that bloody stuff, but still needs to leave a little smile on the viewer’s face.

I ended up making almost 40 layouts including several different version of several different ideas.

The following steps are showing the process:

STEP 1. First basic ideas, different version of typefaces.

STEP 2. A new layout idea making a possible series of three.

STEP 3. Revising the “T-shirt” idea from the first step. Trying different typeface including hand-made typography.

STEP 4. A new idea after brainstorming with the director.

STEP 5. Twor new ideas.

STEP 6. New ideas and version of older layouts, different typefaces.

FINALLY: the final version with teaser poster (right)

Detail of the final poster.

Another idea: the limited edition T-shirt:
