Doors, windows … and flowers. [update]
My latest project is called “marigolds”. In preparation, I researched on the web and found, of course, this. …which turned out to be just partially right. Since I don’t live in the UK, I had to learn it also stands for something else. Both are elements in the short film. The movie has some sort of twist at the end which we didn’t want to give away on the poster already. So we decided to use just the blue door as a very strong graphic and metaphoric element adding some hint with the pot of flowers.
I had a different idea initially which is graphically very similar but very different regarding its meaning. I wanted to use a window with the main character’s face being halfway visible through the glass. The client preferred the door instead.

Since I liked the idea of “behind closed doors” which fits very well to the film, I was very much ok with that.
Since the original photograph of the door wasn’t taken from a straight perspective, I had to change this by using digital image editing. I was very lucky it worked out so well … very often, you can’t change a picture’s perspective that good!

Finally, I very much like how the flower theme ended up being on the DVD itself as well. I am very keen on holding a produced one in my hands!

The typeface used for the film title is the wonderfully designed free font Justus which is available for free download here.
